I was out west last week driving around Nevada, Utah, and Arizona and Tron was on 21.430 a lot and very solid copy. i was running a KX3 in a mobile with a non-resonant whip on Friday and Saturday, and as a portable out along the rim of the Grand Canyon on Sunday. Tim was booming in on the portable setup and on the mobile every day. I couldn't break in (does he ever breathe??
) and was PW anyway with 12 watts PEP, but got some nice recordings of him on my phone as audio and video that I might try to edit and post. If I had an email for him I'd send them along to him.
Was nice to hear voices from home way out there. It was funny though, he was complaining about being snowed in and I was ducking sunburn.
Also heard KL7OF on Sunday on the Rim very well and a few other stations from back east. I didn't work anyone on AM, but made several contacts on 10 and 15 with the little whip in the picture and a counterpoise wire (the orange lead you see passing behind the mic cable). The tuner in the KX3 is scary good!
