I was able to get a reservation with our own *LARGE* room for the after-Marlboro AM lunch.

The Marlboro flea is this weekend, Feb-16th.

The room is at the Horseshoe Pub, which is close to both the Flea and more importantly, close to the highway for folks going home!

The room can hold 60 people, so we will not be cramped.  The menu is standard pub fare and family favorites, and is reasonably priced.

This should be a nice get together.  I will be handing out directions and maps at the flea, and will also post the same here.

See you there!!!!

Steve

Thanks, Steve! I passed the info yesterday to the So. Maine contingent. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Directions to the Horseshoe Pub
29 South Street, Hudson, MA
8 Minutes (about 2.9 miles)
from the flea...

It is super-simple to get there.  You are on 1 road until the very end.

Leave the middle school, take a right onto Route 85 North.

Just Follow 85 North for about 2.5 miles.. past the reservoir,  past
Wal Mart on the right, past the 99 restaurant and the entrance road to
290/495 and continue into Hudson.  Still on 85 North (also called
Washington Street), you will come to a McDonald's on your right.

Take a right after McDonald's onto South Street. Follow South Street
until you see a parking lot on your right. The Horseshoe Pub is
immediately after the lot on the right hand side of the road.

I will be handing out maps at the flea.

Dan's Marlboro report....(hot off of the model 15 teletype. Cue the teletype audio cart. Announcer: "This Just In!"):

I had a FANTASTIC time at Marlboro!

Picked up Peter W1ZZZ and his dead 32V2 (which TimTron received for a mod transformer replacement), dead Valiant and 75A4 which needed dial string work. Once in, we set up the Valiant and 75A4 up for flea table repair. Yeah, folks wanted to buy them and Peter had to fend them off. Ted K1QAR and I worked on the dial string on the 75A4, but need to remove the front panel to finish. Steve WA1QIX worked on the Valiant and replaced some dead loading caps. He took the transmitter home to test. This work got the interest of many people at the flea who watched the work. In the meantime, I scoured the flea for goodies and enjoyed talking to a number of AM'ers.

I picked up the following:
1948 ARRL handbook ($2.00)
12'th edition west coast Radio Handbook ($2.00)
three tubes of 78xx voltage regulators ($5.00)
RCA WV-77E VTVM ($8.00)
B&K 2831C bench DVM ($10.00)
audio toroidal inductors ($1.00)
Processing Plus IMP3 multiband AM audio processor ($25.00-Thanks W1LLY!)

Everything works, and the prices were more than reasonable, making the purchases more fun. I tested the audio processor and it works, but has some intermittents, needs calibration and as there is no documentation, I am running blind. If anyone knows anything about this unit, please let me know.

After the flea, Peter and I went to the luncheon, organized by Steve WA1QIX. The food was pretty good, and the conversation very lively. Wish I had time to chat with other folks. It was good to meet some of the Maine contingent and compare notes. It also was good to see Steve's progress on his digital modulation monitor as well as K1KBW's 15m RF deck and modulator. Maybe we can use the other function room next time that looks like it will be acoustically less live?

I feel that the get-togethers help keep the AM group dynamic and active. People are doing things, having fun, discussing their activities and showing off their gear. Our AM community is not suffering from the malaise that some other hams experience. I feel we should keep these get-togethers going, possibly every 6 months or so.

Great pictures Dan!  Sure wish it was closer so that I could have attended.  Looks like everyone was having a great time.

Thanks for the travelogue Dan, I agree it's good to socialize with the folks we enjoy spending time with on the air.

I may have a lead on your IMP3. Stay tooned.

Apparently there is some magic in that box -- make you sound velly smart.

Paul:

That circuit cannot work on me. Not enough smartness! :-)

Thanks and 73,
