Looks like the best time to attempt a contact would be between 0800 and 1200 UTC, that's the only time that the entire path from the east coast to JA is in darkness. West coast stations have a little bit wider window of time, from 0800 to 1500 UTC.

JAs have been coming through on 40 meters via the long path in recent weeks to the east coast of the USA from 2130-2230. I worked several last weekend on SSB.

Dear All,
Hello. Thanks for the feedback.
The path between JA and US (west cost side is easier, I think) is evening (=darkness) time and not big issue if it's for CW and SSB. How ever, recently most of JA-AM stations are not "big-gun" and aiming for domestic QSO (this mean active hours is JA`s day time and no chance for DX).
I listened between 7140 - 7195 last night but could not hear any AM station. I'll listen carefully next weekend evening.
I'm running 100W and G5RV so fingers cross for nice condx!
