Wonder what an American Beauty iron used for soldering at Western Electric would go for on ebay?  Smiley  I wonder if the assembly line workers wore ties every day or just for photo ops?

The last two.  I have seen wooden form RF chokes before but never a wooden condenser.

Rick & "Roosevelt"

Rog,
A great walk back in time. Enjoyed them.
Turn up that McElroy to 250 wpm and enjoy!

Looks like a lot of the ads for joining the service corps have the disclamer, "if you haven't already been inducted by your draft board."  Bet a lot of the good guys had already signed up by late '42 !

I see that the Hammarlund ads referred to "Elmer" as your typical ham.  Hmmm, those are the earliest reference to "Elmer" I've seen. So I wonder if some other of their ads or even other references might even predate those with "Elmer" and if some usage shows an "Elmer" as a teacher or mentor long before we thought.

a rekindling of patriotic stuff..

I picked up this little book on patriotism and will scan it as soon as I finish some transformer manuals that were loaned to me (about 3/4 done).

It's from 1916 and the 31 6x9 sheets seem to be thickly made and feel like some kind of stiff dense cloth, and not have yellowed or deteriorated. Good paper! "Real Patriotism" by Samuel Francis Woolard.

The americanradiohistory.com has tons of radio-related magazines and there are many more patriotic images in them but you have to search through.

I like to save some of the old advertisements and pictures of old radio equipment.

I have a BC-1306, a GRC-9, several ART-13 transmitters and a few BC-348 receivers all in working order. I also like to find period photos of them in use.

I would love to have a scan of your Patriotism book when you get finished scanning.

We really need more of those kinds of books.

Thanks for posting the info.

I have looked over many items from WWII concerning communications and the numerous calls for experienced operators in the early days of the war.  Also have collected most of the "Hams in Combat" series from QST during the war.  Interesting reading.

Had an e-mail discussing with the ARRL historian some time back concerning where all the input from hams to their requests for info for that series at that time.  Apparently no one knows what happened to these files.  Too bad, considering they would have given a reasonable picture of the situation of military communications personnel during the war.

I have that RCA console in the second picture. The innards have been replaced in a professional manner with a Stromberg Carlson 30W 7027 amp and an AM+FM tuner, a Garard RC-88 plattenspieler, and a 12" S-C "Custom 400" coaxial speaker. It's my nicest Hi-Fi set. Monaural of course!

I will be posting that patriotism book on bunkerofdoom once I get to it! You know me, always high resolution so it could theoretically be reproduced decently.
