Did some listening while doing a bit of cleaning and organizing of the radio area before the HMR begins. Already hearing a lot of signals up and down the band from 3.705 to 3.890. Virtually no noise.

The report yesterday of potential CME impacts disrupting radio operations had me wondering.

Looking forward to hearing the bands full of AM signals. The sun is just setting here. Time to fire up the rigs!

Already made two contacts on 10 meters right past sunset - one to New Mexico and the other to Alaska.

It wasn't heavy metal. I was running PW and lightweight, the FT-1000D barefoot.

Very good time last night! Stations worked from coast to coast!

WA3VJB did a great anchor job on 3705kHz
KC4SSB held court on 3880 very well!

KA1KAQ,W0VMC,K7YOO,K0ARA,VE7KHZ and many more.

I counted 71 stations on my page this morning. Including Fran W3SCC on 160 meters just before I crashed.

Here's a look at the aftermath this morning. A great time!

I sure had a great time on 3.705 and a bit later on 3.720.  I did go up to 160 around 8PM and called CQ on 1.875 but no response.  A round table was in progress on 1.885.

Just got up a bit ago after signing off around 3:30 this morning. What a night!

Fantastic conditions with a lot of big signals. It was great to hear so many old friends, as well as working so many new stations, including those from the west coast. TNX to all who took the time to work my station. Hopefully this will result in more AM signals populating the bands.

My station doesn't look that good when it's clean!

Budley you have a great looking shack.  I dig the SEP400.

I thought there was a plan for an amfone.net organized AM operating event some time in Jan. or Feb.?  Or is that off?  Can't remember.
I vaguely recall talk about combining the ER sponsored thing but don't remember if an official decision was made about that or not.

Great looking shack.  I have an E.H.Scott receiver like yours and it is definitely "Heavy Metal"

Buddly,

Great pictures of the station before and after. As usual, you were very loud into CT last night. By the way, I use the same "goose neck" lamp mounting boom for my station microphones. On my last day in the military, I hinted to the company first sergeant that I'd love to have the beat up old lamp that was clamped to my desk as a gift from Uncle Sam for my time served. He just laughed and didn't say anything, but I found it on the floor in the back of my car a couple of days later as I was unpacking stuff. It's been the station mic boom since the early '70's and other than adding a few rubber grommets to the middle flex joint to re-tension things it's never failed me.

Thanks for the cudos guys! It was a fun night.

Gary, the wooden 2 Way was an AR series kit they teamed up with Heathkit on in the early 70's. I looked at the manual and I built them in 1972. I have the other one wrapped up in plastic. For HM night I hooked the Jensen (top) to the Bogen amp driven by the RCH receiver and the AR/Heath was on the Hafler Pro1200 driven by the computer/softrocklite board in that blue plastic case on the R4A.

I'll pull the other AR up from storage and put the Jensen back on the stereo today!

Rob, that's a great story about the lamp/mic boom.  It looks great too, with the dual mics.  That top sergeant really played it well.   I've been in companies with Tops who were @#$%s, and I've been under Tops who were really cool.   When I separated got my uniforms with everything ripped off them.  That's FB--my field jacket is great for changing the oil in my car  Grin

Good thing the rally was last night. The band is very noisy tonight with 20 over 9 static crashes.
