... the Russians are coming .  Actually they are here already.

The Voice of Russia is the Russian government's international radio broadcasting service. (Its predecessor Radio Moscow was the official international broadcasting station of the USSR).

The Voice of Russia has two medium wave AM broadcast outlets in the US ... 1430 AM in New York and 1390 AM in Washington.  There is a live stream of the 1430 outlet at http://tunein.com/radio/WNSW-1430-s24420/.

I've been listening for the last few days and they certainly have some interesting programming. Its a mix of news and commentary that is far from the propganda that we heard from Radio Moscow.  You can get alot of information about Europe and Asia that you would never get here as well as a different take on the homogenized news that we get inthe US.

When I am in Alaska,  The Voice of Russia comes in very well on several freqs in the 14-15 Mhz bands. You are right, the news is not so homogenized...They have a web site..I didn't realize they had transmitters on the ground in the USA..

Russia TV, RT, has some interesting news.  Unfortunately they almost never miss an opportunity to flog the US from some strange interpretation, or using whatever American crank "expert" they can find.

I heard the 1390 outlet the last time I was in DC. No 50 Hz hum, but yes, some different news than the usual.

I like to watch RT also when I can get it ... lots of interesting content there as well.  I think they may have followed the lead of the american networks in featuring questionable "experts".   It also seems to be a standard practice now to quote an unattributed source to help support a story that enforces the bias of the news organization, especially on radio.  I keep hearing news reports like "The opposition to strawberry-frosted cupcakes continues to grow" then they cut to a quote from some unattributed source who says "um, yes I'm against strawberry-frosted cupcakes and they are a serious problem and uh, something should be done about them"  Roll Eyes

Back in the early 70's, thar was a " Rock Groupe" apearing at  Griffiss AFB.
They did quite well untill thay started with the 'back in the us, back in the us, back in the ussr'.
They were percussively exfoliated from the venue.

That's been standard fare for the NYT and the WaPo for decades. The Ruskies even had one of their own on the NYT staff for years.

Editorials as news dates back to the beginning of this country. TV just followed the "tradition."

Some US radio stations refused to play the song.  Apparently, the satire was too subtle.
