Any Night owls or early bird risers?  7.290 AM is open here at 07:00 UTC (2 am CDT locally)

I would love to drum up more 40 meter action during the dark hours.  Let's make a schedule.

Does it sound like there's a path with the East Coast?

I am up at 4AM Eastern (0800Z) and could play a while weekday mornings, coffee permitting.

Hey Paul, I'll be home wed, thur and fri mornings this week.  How about a sched and we can see how it goes?  Check here tommorow morning (wed) and I'll post the frequency by 4 AM EDT to try.

Of course anyone else thusly licensed is welcome too!

I'm sometimes up till 3AM, but only to talk to colleagues Taiwan during their afternoon for work purposes. Then I arise at 7AM and go to work at the office. Somewhat of a night owl, yes. If I could ever get enough time, I would like to stay up all night and operate but I do not feel like it when my hours are so long. I have no idea what bands are best then but looks like that question is partially answered!

If there is little or no BC or SSB interference, power and a decent antenna should provide good coverage over one-half of the USA. I see no reason why coast-to-coast wouldn't be possible  quite often.

Steve, I heard you on slopbucket down in the lower part of the band last night, working an Italian I think.

Paul, et al. Although there is a bit of a noise floor with some static crashes this morning, We can probably make a go at on 7.290 AM

I am hearing no B.C. station there.

OK, will be there at quarter past 4, with coffee

Success !

Well that was cool.

The static crashes were only 20 percent of your audio, at the worst, and most of the time you were in the clear. I will post a sound file later to let you know reception.

Could not hear Frank WA3JBT for the most part, just enough to recognize his voice.

Despite the Severe T-Storms all around me (none were right on top) your 300G was cutting through with EXCELLENT strength and audio.  40 meter AM in the early morning is FUN!  We'll have to get some others to join in some mornings... we'll just have be spread out a few states due to the propagation not conducive to nearby stations.

I saw WS4B spotted on 72 60 or 70 something tonight.

Yup I work AM in the evenings but due to my antenna restrictions from my HOA, I only have a vertical set-up for 6-40 Meter use.

Long story short, I am working more 20 Meter evening AM above 14.320 now that the solar numbers are improving along with the fact that 20 is staying open later in the evening. 14.286 is too crowded with the slop buckets not respecting in progress AM QSOs. (What's new)

The top edge of 20 is clear of all activity usually past 23:00 UTC, and I can most always chat up there without QRM issues most of the time. I'm up there several evenings a week around that time, and try to center myself near 14.335. You would be suprised how many "CQ 20 Meter AM" phone resposes I get from people telling me I am their first AM contact. I love it!!!

I encourage others to do the same, as we could create a nice little AM window from say 14.330 to 14.345. Trust me, that time of early evening most everyone is below 14.300. (Just keep it our little secret)  Grin

It's hard to work DX on 40 and not work an Italian! Lots of them on and lots with good signals. I don't think I've ever worked one on AM though. Need to fix that.

40M for stateside activity at night should be great. It can give you a nice break from the 160 and 80 meter static in the summer months.

Last couple days 40 meters has been active on 7.290 to 95 up to about 4:30 local time near Albany New York. Today 95 was active with one guy on 96 and another on 7.298.

whee cutting it a little close to the hairy edge, eh ?

I like setting up on the low side, 7280-85 or so to give room for another QSO above, but that's crazy where they were at.

I don't think I've ever heard you on 40 meters at night.

I might try getting on the air this evening,  if it looks like this is clearing up.

Maybe Wednesday morning 0815GMT after first coffee's ready.

7284Kc now listening on the outside speaker  0816Z

KB9NGX at Apple River, Ill., not too strong but nice QSO, ex-Navy and knows the big towers near here at Greenbury Point (once a LW submarine comms facility, now dismantled)

N9UTJ was next, Terre Haute, Ind., pair of 811A into a quad of 811A, 3 ele at 120 feet, yo !  Quite strapping, good QSO until the band completely collapsed at 0903GMT, I mean, like how 10M craps out sometimes, just totally foided awoiy.

Finally spooled this sound file from the open reel, John, sorry for the delay. Yes, there were some cratic stashes but as you can hear, the copy was good, considering.

Hey thanks for posting that Paul!  I'm impressed with the Viking II and D-104.   Next time, I'll get an aircheck of your wonderful sounding Collins 300G.
