"Altec-Lansing Green" paint

I was at the Azle (TX) hamfest this morning and picked up a really nice 8 RU desktop rack cabinet. It's almost perfect except for a bit of paint flaking and surface rust on one end.

Does anyone have a source for "Altec-Lansing Green" paint? First choice, spray can. Second choice, little can and I'll use an airbrush. Third choice, I guess, is strip it and paint it wrinkle black.

There actually is no one single color for Altec "green" - it varies a bit with vintage.

But I got very very close results by taking a front panel (in my case) to Sherwin Williams, having them do the computer match bit and mixing a gallon of their Alkyd Enamel to that color. I sprayed it with an automotive touch up gun... very close. Almost perfect.

The choice of primer color will effect the final color as well...

Thanks for the memory nudge, Bear. You're absolutely right about the variations over the years. The cabinet is a very dark green which I remember as a '50s, maybe into the early '60s color. I actually prefer the brighter green of the late '60s and early '70s. Guess I'll take a panel to our local Sherwin-Williams and get them to match that and then tweak it to the lighter shade that I like. Maybe hit the entire thing with a light gray primer before the color coat. Thanks again.

Well, yeah... but that was like 10yrs ago now, and the can has garnered a wonderful patina of rust... and besides if you want a match the computer generated one you get will likely come out closer... the primer will pull the color one way or the other depending on what you use (white, red, grey)...

PS. the gloss is not identical, but if you need more gloss once it is dead dry (oven drying is an option) you can buff and polish...

   I had one of these I repaired for a cust.  He asked me if
I wanted it when he went out of buis. I still have the meter panel.
You can see by the pix that the rack is diff. from the panel.
If you need it I can ship it out.
