Just picked up a new Behringer "AUTOCOM PRO-XL MDX1600" for real cheap, $40. Do y'all have any opinions on it?

I have not yet hooked it up to any test gear, but it looks like it has a lot of compression ability. It hs balanced in and out on the back panel. It seems to compress and limit separately, which is desirable. With two channels, maybe I can run two compressions for less distortion?

The attack is as fast as 500us, I think that is a little slow for those annoying peak noises, but it might be OK.

I don't yet understand why I would want a sidechain or exactly what that is for, but it has jacks for it too.

Another use might be on the audio output of a receiver to make the level more constant.

I had a Behringer VX-2000 that was doing great then just crapped out.  I picked up an MDX1600 for 30 bucks on ebay to replace it and use it with my Marshall MX-990 microphone.

Works GREAT for the price Pat.  If you wanna hear it on the air, I'm in Louisiana, I'm sure we can arrage it.  I'll try to check into the Texoma traders net @ 7:30 am on 3.890 Sat morning.  ** in a few hours **

For $40, I don't think you can go wrong. It should do a good job for you.

The sidechain input is used as a control input for the compressor. Basically, if the sidechain input audio crosses a threshold, the compressor is triggered. DJs use it to lower the level of the program material as they are speaking.

Good find!

Wow that is great news that it's usable. I took a gamble, but it seems like it was not a risk at all. I hope I can find the time to try the unit, and then play with the sidechain.

At 7:30 I was in the backyard, having not looked at the computer, getting ready for some work. My friends Doyle and Jacob came over and we managed to seat three guy deadmen in their holes and pour concrete for two of them today. It was very hot, 100 degrees so we got tired about 5:00 PM. The deadmen are pieces of pipe 15 ft long, 5" ID, and 0.25" wall. The holes are 5FT deep. The first 1FT is full of gravel. Anyway therefore I didn't see the message till now but I have a good excuse.
