NOS Cetron 572B's

Wow!  So, there was a pair of NOS Cetron 572B's on ePay.  They apparently were made by Cetron for Dentron (the box said Dentron, but the bases had the typical Cetron Made in USA blue label). 

I put in a bid for the pair at 91.80 since the shipping was 8.20 and that would have made it a cool 100 bucks, if I won.

Expensive but hey, they're Cetrons right?  The bid had 22hrs at the time and was at 44.00 bucks.

I was outbid, of course...
Wning bid?  $151.99 before shipping.

I'm thinking I might sell my SB-200.   *sigh*

Anyway, I had to vent, thank you.

Call me Mr. Sour Grapes if you want. Those rigs that use 3-500 or 572's could be changed to use another type tube and do very well in most cases. I'm sure there are many success stories right here on this board of people who done well with a conversion.

Or if you don't want to modify, the Taylor 572B tubes seem to be getting OK reviews these days and the Russian Svetlana version is also available (requires a bias mod with some amps).  Both are around $50 each from RF parts and they do come with a warranty unlike ebay tubes.  Some of the early Chinese stuff was pretty lousy but they seem to have gotten their act together.

I have had great luck with Svetlana 572s in my 30L-1 sideband leenear with its beefed-up power supply.

1200 watts out of a quad, key-down. No bias mods necessary.

One lost it's filament a few months after I bought it, but RF Parts immediately replaced it under warranty.
