3-500 chimney versus 4-400

(1/1)

VE1IDX:
Can a chimney for a 4-400 tube be used with a 3-500Z? I have some chimneys that were in a TX that used 4-400's and I am thinking of homwbrewing a project with 3-500's but not sure if the chimneys will fit. I know the sockets are the same.

WA1GFZ:
One is shorter than the other but you could make a spacer out of G10 to jack it up.

Steve - WB3HUZ:
THe SK406B will work with both the 3-500 and 4-400. The socket must be mounted an inch below the chassis though.

The SK406 is talled by about 3/4 of an inch. The SK-406 is about a quarter-inch taller. I think both of those will still work.

VE1IDX:
Tnx for the info guys. I just had a chance to look on the RF Parts website and see that the chimneys I have must be the regular SK406.There are no markings on them at all that I can see. They measure 4.75 inches high so it looks like I have what I need to fit the 3-500Z's. I knew the diameter was fine but I had wondered about the height. The sockets I have are presently mounted in a chassis about 1/2 inch below the chassis surface and that gave them lots of room for the 4-400's but not having any 3-500Z's on hand I was not sure if they would fit or not. It looks like I may have a winter project after all. Now all I need to do is get rid of all the spring/summer/fall projects around the house so I will have time for that winter project.
