I received a pleasant surprise today. I'm monitoring 29.000 MHz and I hear VK4VN calling CQ with a nice 5/5 signal. We turn out to have a nice 10 minute QSO before the band faded away. It looks like Cycle 24 is indeed coming to life!!!

The Sunday of the 10M contest had pure F2 with the MUF up to 38MHz in some places. Coast to coast plus down to the tip of SA, some equatorial AF, and a bunch of Pacific islands were all in at once. I worked about a dozen AM Q's also when I fired up the V II and HRO-60.

Yah, it's cooking nicely today. I was running about 175 watts into my 250 foot center-fed and had 3 nice chats in a row with:

Casey - K7JX in Tacoma, WA  S-9 +10
Jim - K3DCC in Albuquerque, NM  S-9 +20
Randy - N5RL in San Antonio, TX S-7

It's nice to hear west coast areas floating in so solidly! I caught some of Randy's signal in the MP3 below.

As I ticky-tap this the 29mhz AM sect is still open but extreme weak sigs now..I was NOT able to join in the sheer bedlam heard from my side of the continent..freaky SWR probs due to heavy downpours earlier in the week and rearranging the shack and honey-do things kept me busy and away from the mic..however here's the lineup I did manage to hear when I could..

K6UO 5/5
WA0GAG 5/5
WA8YUZ 5/1
AB7YD 5/9+
WA9EIC 5/2
K7JX 5/5
W7GEC 5/9
W1UR 5/3
AD5FL 5/5
W5QXX 5/9
K5DQI 5/7

The number after the call is signal report as I would've given if..strongest and most consistent was AB7YD on the Apache modded who at times went to 20 over..all this occured between 1915 to 2200 UTC..trust me it was real!   73 de DAVE

Hey gang..have not posted in a couple days due to "new" addition to my shack..however it HAS been open way past 29mhz..in the AM spot in and around 29mhz a number of stations heard here usually past 3:00pm going to 7:00pm from mostly left coast to TX/OK..Tom W0TDH e-mailed to say he worked VK4VN ystdy Q5 sigs on 29mhz AM..so der ya go once more..enjoy! 73 de DAVE

29.600 NFM was open today into the CT on line receiver. It's a good sign when it opens this far up the band. Six meters should be open soon?
