Gary,
8005s are nice triodes, but made of unobtanium. It took me 2 years to find a spare pair for a transmitter that I have. If you are looking for something in that power range I'd consider 811As instead, since they are a lot easier to come by than 8005s and 811As will wirk fine with 0 bias where 8005s wont. Just my $.02 worth.

We have a mac 200watt test amp here at work and I thought one tube was bad. I found a pair on the web for almost $200. Lucky the problem was a dirty contact in the tube socket but one tube has run very hot so its days are numbered. I would use something easier to find.

Thanks for the advice guys. Seeing I allready have a stash of 8005's and 6L6G's, thought I would conjur up something a little different than you normaly hear. Also have a nice mod transformer to try in this application.

I use 8005's in the final of one of my HB rigs.  I have a couple of spares.  I did have one more spare,  but I let one slip out of my hands and dropped it about 1 foot onto a carpeted rug and opened up the filament.  Angry

Here's why transmitting triodes like the 2A3, 211, 845 and 8005 are made of unobtainium:

Long before anyone much in the USA was buying up old tubes, the asians did.
First the Japanese, then the Hong Kongese, followed by the Koreans then finally the 3 billion Chinese got their paws on anything "Made in USA" that was a DHT.

It wasn't until mid 90s or later that the average doodly doo USA audio toob-o-phile got excited about what was under their noses for decades...

Blame the asians Don, not anyone else.
The american audio nuts were very very late to the party, after mostly the scraps were left...
