Gary,
After bragging that you never worry about antenna icing or swr, you dissapeared in mid sentence after saying "Oh Oh!". What Happened?? Inquiring minds want to now! Grin

OK SA

Sorry to inform you and now the entire AM community it wasn't vswr associated.

The problem is somewhere in the HV section on the transmitter. I wouldn't work on it last night after the wine.

I will issue a press release to the New York Times when I figure it out Frank.

Oh, we never got any icing or much snow up here yesterday.

That was the first "on the air" crap out I have had in 19 years.

Thanks

huh-HA  !!!!
After the whine, indeed.
You really have to quit yer boozin' , Gary.
Last night you were seeing purple haze coming off your rectifier tubes, and spent an 18min transmission describing a swirl of light and dark shading inside the tubes that appeared to be moving as you spoke.

Made my flesh crawl, real horror-movie, plasmatron stuff.

It's on tape of course.

Paul, I am offended that you would give Gary a hard time for his phantasmagoric tube light show observations. I personaly like to load up heavy enough that the plates become transparent enough to see the electrons bouncing off the grids......you HAVE seen that haven't you?
Oh I forgot, you run carbon, not tantalum anodes.
If your carbon is glowing
you better get going.

Sorry I missed you all last night

Hope everything is OK. Ralph/GL checked in and gave us a report on your crap out. Too bad, the band really came around. Frank came up out of the noise and held at or near full scale the rest of the night. So did Todd. Buddly continued to have a good signal and KF8XO check in from Detriolet. The static seemed to drop off some too.

Later I worked some Euros in the window on slop bucket. Got reports like 20 over 9 from them, so the longer skip was rocking too.

I love it !!!  Cool

I've had some really spectacular crapouts over the years; fires (yes, real fires in the transmitter), explosions, deafening arcs and discharges and release of dangerous substances.

Once, I actually had a transmitter explode in my face, and I *didn't* have my glasses on.  Why I wasn't blinded, I'll never know.  My face and hair were covered with pieces of metal, along with the remains of the (fairly large) electrolytic capacitor that literally blew up no more than 5 inches from my eyes.  I think God must have been looking out for me.  A very humbling experience, for sure!!!!

And they ask if I go sky diving on my life insurance policy o

Regards,

Steve

That was a pretty dramatic departure, G. Was wondering if one of your neighbors was re-enacting the Hindenburg disaster.

Wow! Glad you weren't hurt. When those electrolytic caps go, they can be spectacular. The guts get sprayed all over the place.

Here's one that went off inside a Super Pro 400 power supply.

This destruction from the Almighty or Wrath of God is what is necessary to finally defeat Satan on this Earth.  By casting out Satan from heavy Metal and his angels won the first battle.  The next battle in this war against Satan and his demons is to restrict the negative influence that they have on Earth.  This begins first by taking out from the Earth what is good, and second by wiping out the garbage that remains.

OIC - Operator-Induced Crapout. (pronounced, 'oh, I see!')

Of course, once G reappeared on the air, the fun of teasing was gone - almost. There was still some entertainment value to be had in the multiple queries as to what happened, why, what caused it, why, what'd ya do about it, why, and so on.

After we flogged that for all it was worth, we got after Brent for a while with rapid fire questions about his antenna system, Class E rig, and so on.

Keeping with the AMfone format, last night was QSO night. Tech night date TBA.  Wink
