You can imagine what the dummies in the Power company control room were thinking when they see this tremendous draw of power from those lines. You would think a circuit breaker kicked after just a few seconds of an overload. The transformers at the substation were probably humming pretty heavy during that.
The controllers thought it was just some heavy air conditioning load just happened and turned up the generator outpoot.
TV news crews are famous for hoisting up the 2ghz dish to link up with the station and hitting live power lines. It fried everything in the van. Big happening in Washington DC

My brother used to license crane opps  in NY State....  On of the tests was to place the ball/hook combo into a tire layed on its side... many failed this simple test.  He (also a licensed electrician)  had a hard time explaining to the opps that you didn't have to touch a wire to get killed. On one of his investigations, the opp saw or heard (its surmised) that the crane had contacted a wire. Naturally, when the opp stepped off the crane onto the roadway, he got flash fried......  It only takes one little mistake......  klc

Too Hot today but the leaves are coming down.
I walked around the yard and did an inspection / dream walk
Honey do day. Replaced the rear light lense in XYL's ride. Neighbor backed into her car about 4 months ago. Got tired of looking at the new one sitting next to the door. Then yanked the dryer apart and replaced the impeller. Towel dry time reduced to 1/2 hour.
Then took a nice long nap.......might be a radio night

It is full on Fall in Naknek AK.....The leaves have turned, the tundra is yellow and we had our first frost last nite....I am taking my 100 ft dipole down!  We usually have a couple storms each winter with wind velocities at 80 MPH sometimes over 100 MPH so I never leave my wire up...... It is time to head south for the winter

Twice now, I've tried to reply to this thread about when Bob/W5PYT flew a Box Kite over Ozona one night, and the winds died down and his long-wire antenna darkened half of Crockett County.

I've yet to see the message come up.
