What do think is one of the best car related rock tunes made?  A tune that gets you pumped.

Here's just one.  Lately can't seem to get enough of Highway Star by Deep Purple

Yes, definately "Highway Star" by Deep Purple. That's my first choice for road trips.

Another great one is "Born to Be Wild" by Steppenwolf.

AC/DC - Highway To Hell
Meatloaf - Bat Out Of Hell
Primus - Jerry Was A Race Car Driver
Charlie Daniels - Hot Rod Lincoln

I also listen to Techno-Trance music allot while driving. I find that it helps with my focus on driving and less on the idiots I have to share the road with. Because it keeps my Road Rage level down when said idiots cut me off or otherwise drive stupid.

Roadrunner The Modern Lovers

One two three four five six
Roadrunner, roadrunner
Going faster miles an hour
Gonna drive past the Stop 'n' Shop
With the radio on

I'm in love with Massachusetts
And the neon when it's cold outside
And the highway when it's late at night
Got the radio on
I'm like the roadrunner

Alright
I'm in love with modern moonlight
128 when it's dark outside
I'm in love with Massachusetts
I'm in love with the radio on
It helps me from being alone late at night
It helps me from being lonely late at night
I don't feel so bad now in the car
Don't feel so alone, got the radio on
Like the roadrunner
That's right

Said welcome to the spirit of 1956
Patient in the bushes next to '57
The highway is your girlfriend as you go by quick
Suburban trees, suburban speed
And it smells like heaven(thunder)
And I say roadrunner once
Roadrunner twice
I'm in love with rock & roll and I'll be out all night
Roadrunner
That's right

Well now
Roadrunner, roadrunner
Going faster miles an hour
Gonna drive to the Stop 'n' Shop
With the radio on at night
And me in love with modern moonlight
Me in love with modern rock & roll
Modern girls and modern rock & roll
Don't feel so alone, got the radio on
Like the roadrunner
O.K., now you sing Modern Lovers

(Radio On!)
I got the AM
(Radio On!)
Got the car, got the AM
(Radio On!)
Got the AM sound, got the
(Radio On!)
Got the rockin' modern neon sound
(Radio On!)
I got the car from Massachusetts, got the
(Radio On!)
I got the power of Massachusetts when it's late at night
(Radio On!)
I got the modern sounds of modern Massachusetts
I've got the world, got the turnpike, got the
I've got the, got the power of the AM
Got the, late at night, (?), rock & roll late at night
The factories and the auto signs got the power of modern sounds
Alright

Right, bye bye!

Rocket 88 by Ike Turner--possibly the first rock and roll song--before Tina even!!

HR Lincoln was re-done by Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen but I can't remember the guy who did the original.

Of course if yer into Goat Ropin music (sometimes called country) U cud listen to Dave Dudley--6 days on the road

Now for you sissy bikers there's Leader of the Pack.

Factoid:  The Original Hot Rod Lincoln was written and sung by Charlie Ryan in 1955.  He is also the guy that built the Hot Rod Lincoln.. It is a Model A Ford body on a shortened Lincoln Zephyr frame.  A Flathead V8 Lincoln fills up the engine compartment.. In the song, the grapevine hill he refers to is the Old switchback grade that comes up out of Lewiston Idaho.  There is a new road down into Lewiston since the 80's but the old grade is still open and every once in a while I drive it just for fun..The original Hot Rod Lincoln was on display at the Museum of Arts and Culture (MAC) in Spokane, WA last winter.  It isn't a show car but it was cool to see..They still drive it.  Cool song too.

Ya know John, I thought so too but the web tells another story.

HOT ROD LINCOLN
(Charlie Ryan / W.S. Stevenson)

Commander Cody & The Lost Planet Airmen - 1972

Also recorded by: All; Asleep at the Wheel; Johnny Bond;
Blanche McCrary Boyd; Les Claypool; Larry Groce; Hit Crew;
Hot Rod Lincoln; Bill Kirchen; Kenny Price; Razorbacks;
Rollin' in the Hay; Charlie Ryan; Pat Travers; The Twangbangers.

My pappy said "Son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin',
if you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln."

Have you heard the story of the hot rod race,
where the Fords 'n' Lincolns was settin' the pace?
That story is true, I'm here to say,
that I was drivin' that Model-A.

It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up,
that Model-A body makes it look like a pup.
It's got eight cylinders and uses 'em all,
got overdrive, just won't stall.
With a four-barrel carb and a dual exhaust,
with 4-11 gears you can really get lost.
Got safety tubes but I ain't scared,
the brakes are good, tires fair.

From the history of "Hot Rod Lincoln" page http://www.rockabillyhall.com/HotRodLncln1.html

Quote
HOT ROD LINCOLN by Charlie Ryan & The Timberline Riders
written by Charlie Ryan & W.S. Stevenson
4 Star 1733, 1959
Billboard review date: 26-Oct-59
Chart position: #14 Country, #33 Pop

Although Jim Dawson & Steve Propes wrote in 1992 that Johnny Bond had
recorded "Hot Rod Lincoln" prior to Charlie Ryan's version, I find that
the Ryan recording was reviewed on 26-Oct-59, while Bond's wasn't reviewed
until 20-Jun-60, a full eight months later.  Ryan's version debuted on
the charts on 09-May-60, while Bond didn't hit until 08-Aug-60, so it is
apparent that Ryan started the revival.  Dawson & Propes also mentioned
that Bond's version charted C&W, which I have not been able to confirm.

HOT ROD LINCOLN, as written by Charlie Ryan & W.S. Stevenson:

Well you've heard the story of the hot-rod race that fatal day,
when the Ford and the Mercury went out to play.
This is the inside story I'm here to say,
I was the kid that was a-drivin' that Model-A.

It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up,
and that Model-A body makes it look like a pup.
It's got twelve cylinders, and uses them all,
with an overdrive that just won't stall.

I've heard this song MANY times and can vouch for the "twelve cylinders" line.

Quote
HOT ROD LINCOLN by Charlie Ryan & The Livingston Brothers
written by Charlie Ryan
Souvenir 101, 1955
Billboard review date: Not reviewed
Chart position: Did not chart

The most enduring of the answer records was "Hot Rod Lincoln" by
Charlie Ryan & The Timberline Riders, which first saw open road in
1955, attributed to Charlie Ryan & The Livingston Brothers on Ryan's
own Souviner Records.  Ryan later told Pat Ganahl, editor of Rod and
Custom magazine, that he and Shibley wrote their respective songs at
about the same time in 1950, when they were both touring in the same
area.  Ryan, who owned a real hot rod Lincoln with twelve cylinders,
begins his road race in Lewiston, Idaho, going through to the top of
the hill (where Chuck Berry would later catch Maybellene in her Coupe
de Ville).
