Title: Driving 811A grids from Eico 730
Post by: nq5t on January 08, 2007, 11:05:07 AM
I want to drive a pair of 811A's from an Eico 730.   The 730 does not have a center tapped output on the mod transformer, but it does have an unbalanced 500 ohm output.  I was thinking about driving a Hammond 1650G audio transformer backwards -- using the 500 ohm output tap as input, and the 6600 ohm CT input of the transformer to drive the tubes, feeding bias through the CT.

Is this a good idea?  Is there a better way to go about this?

Sounds FB to me. I use a commercial audio amp's 70 volt (500 ohm) output to drive my various rigs here.
Just be careful of the audio level out of the 730 and Rf getting into the unbalanced audio.
