Title: DX100 driver transformer help
Post by: Jim KF2SY on June 12, 2006, 12:57:00 PM
Hello all,
Friday nite zorched out the audio driver transformer...was hitting it a little
heavy ;-)
Any way was looking at the Hammond P-T124D or the P-T124E as possible replacements.
Both available at Antique Electronic Supply.  Anybody ever try these for this rig in that application?
Are they suitable?  Thanks,

Jim .... the 124E is a good replacement for that application.
I have one in the Viking 1 and it's worked FB for a few years now.
I also know half a dozen other Apache, Viking 1 & 2 class xmitters with 'em in.

Jim, I went down that road this winter and let me tell you that the driver transformer for the DX-100 is slightly undersized. I can't remember what the turns ratio was but I replaced mine with a Merit I had in the junk pile. I was seriously considering going the phase inverter/resistive coupled route. That may be worthwhile to investigate.

Thanks for respsonses.  Will go with the Hammond...also may add modified heising,
eventually...
Lots of fun just tinkering with the rig.
