Just the other day, Max was telling me about his grand plan for just such an open source project. He was not familiar with the back plane they are using, and would prefer not reinventing the wheel and use either PCI bus of for stand alone, PC-100 architecture. You and Max should surf over to their site and check out the careful back plane design. They actually ran it on a TDR to make sure of the performance. I love it when I get a chance to be the grass hopper with RX design. This is the first RX gang I have found that makes me feel like I will learn something. The board that replaces a computer interface is the first one that I want to connect to my SDR board. I feel these guys will blow the sdr 1K away and actually sd1k guys are part of the gang. old fashon analog guy with open mind.... Rob, I wonder if max is interested in a new S100 board built with a Z80 processor board and a 4 K ram board. Lots of spare slots. You need a computer, unfortunately, but at least the hardware and software are from the USA.

The SDR1000 will be old hat soon save your money for the next generation. The preselector needs to be a lot stronger in my book. I am impressed with the tayloe close in dynamic range but not impressed with a DDS as a LO source. Flex avoids the worst frequencies by shifting the IF but still makes a bit of spurs. |
