Title: Homebrew CHIMNEYs for 4-400 & 3-500 tubes - DIY method
Post by: WBear2GCR on March 25, 2006, 10:35:55 AM
Here's a way to make chimneys for 4-400 or 3-500 series tubes, can be applied to most tubes if you can find the appropriate bit of glass jar! The only downside is that it is NOT tempered glass - however it should work just fine as long as ur blower works ok and you don't get a huge differential in temperature in the glass itself. Usually there's no problem, and if one cracks you can just replace it.

That's a very slick way to cut the glass - using a heated nichrome wire wire with a Variac.

The chimneys look excellent.

Good thinking.

This works good. I made one out of a pickle jar for my 4-1000. I pulled the nichrome wire out of an old headlight switch ( used to dim the dash lights). No problem at all with the non-tempered glass.

Easy!  ;D

Heat it up, and as soon as it is liquid cool down really fast. That's it.  ;D
