Title: Just reminder for new folks doing repairs Post by: KR4WI on February 27, 2006, 09:44:39 PM Hello; I just wanted to remind anyone that maybe new to repairing these old tx and rx, as I am, Beware of the reading on variacs meters it may be giving you the incorrect voltage, mine was. I thought I was putting 110 volts ac into tx, according to meter, and I measured it with two seperate volt/ohm meters and I was putting 150 volts into it, And I been wondering why the fuse is blowing when I apply plate voltage. A Variac is a simple auto-transformer, and some can be easily tapped for an over voltage boost. Many have five taps instead of the required three. They can be used to go from 120 to 150VAC or whatever. But, if you use the complete winding for the 120V primary, you will always see no more than this 120V input on the output.
