Title: Ranger Help...
Post by: kx9dk on December 30, 2005, 02:37:15 PM
I'm in the process of rebuilding an early version Ranger. I got the RF section working except for 40 meters where the most grid drive I can get is around 1.5 ma. I get plenty of grid current on all the other bands (up to 5 ma). Any Ranger users out there run into this or know where the problem might be?

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave

Check the condition and the values of the resistors on the Bandswitch. If I remember correctly the first section ( closest to the front of the rig) is the section that switches the grids.

When I had that problem I found a resistor had changed value.

Good luck
Gary

Gary,

Thanks Gary. The first resistor I checked (R8) was bad (open). Supposed to be 68K. I got lucky and found one in the junk box. Works great now with plenty of grid drive on all bands.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Now I just need to get the audio section cleaned up and I should be able to put the rig on the air.
