Estimated times Bill?

I've been calling CQ on 3880 the last 15 minutes, but in general, I'm thinking
8 to 11 PM Eastern.

Ah I was just looking at the 4X3 thinking the pair of UTC CG310s have not had current passed through them in a long while. Might  be time to light the old jug
and wash the window.

Yeah, the 4X3 again. That's the ticket Franz!

Just got off 75M. At 10PM worked Mike, KO6NM in LA, +20-25 !  About the earliest ever heard him.  Very long band. Also worked a few W5/W0's .

Down in the DX window Russia is crashing in. RN6BY just got up a new HB Yagi at 110' high. He's the channel master tonight.

I'm getting the "need for speed"( to strap )
New ant seems to work well on 160 might also play on 75 to the west.

Propagation on 75 and 160 was not good last night.  Maybe better in the heartland tonight.

Last night at sunset on 3796, I heard K8TVD in Ohio working Kan, 7J4AAL in Hiroshima, JA.  Unfrickin believable considering how far west the K8 was.  This was an 18,000 mile path SE thru the south Atlantic and back up again.

Kan was about S9+20 here and I worked him and about six of his buddies before moving on. The Euros were about as loud as they get early last night.  An indication that the band wud be long.

If you want an idea how the band is opening up, listen to 3925 at East Coast sunset for the 50KW BC station in Tokyo. Usually in there for 30 minutes or so. Then for a Eu indication, there is a strong RTTY on 3781.5 from Portugal from sunset to dawn the next day. Over time, these relative readings make predictive sense.

Those two, esp the RTTY can tell you how the band will be that evening, long skip-wise.

Was the Japan station on AM ?

Of course, Paul!  He was running amplitude modulation.

Here's Kan from Hiroshima - notice the guy waving and walking on the boom:

I heard the new SteppIR antenna works just as well as that JA one but the boom only needs to be 27 feet long. Can you verify this Tom?

Yes, Dave, you are correct.

SteppIR was taken over by Force 12 who was then bought out by Gotham.

Gotham has redesigned all antennas and plans to market a new 75M Yagi that will fit in the palm of your hand giving full sized results.  Perfect for the apt dweller.

Yes, that JA is obviously wasting his time when he could just get the NEW SteppIR.
You would think he gets QST and reads the ads. What's wrong with ham radio anymore.
