Title: WA2IAC BURNED IN HOUSE FIRE
Post by: W2JBL on November 14, 2005, 08:31:25 PM
i learned this morning that my friend Greg WA2IAC an AM op from Sparkill NY was badly burned over the weekend in a fire that destroyed his house. he was rescued from the house by his neighbor who is a local volunteer firefighter, Joe N2LF. Greg suffered second and third degree burns on his hands, face and neck, and is in Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla NY. the only info i have on his condition is that he is "conciuos and alert". his house is reported to be a total loss including radio equipment etc. i will continue to update this as i get more info. at present i don't have a room number for him or any contact info.

Wow, that's really horrible. I don't know greg and I can't sayI ever spoke to him on the air but thank God he's still alive and cognizant.  I wish him a speedy and  a full recovery.  A fire like that is a horrid experience.

I just heard from Gregg Nov. 4th in response to an email I sent asking "whatever happened to YOU ??"

Gregg has this enormous Gates 833A rig, the BC1-E, now likely part of the damaged stuff in his house.

You wouldn't believe the szht the poor guy had already been through prior to this latest bad news.
He had asked me not to distribute the sad story, but I'm sure he would want me to pass this along --

Quote
I really miss the entire
75m AM crew. I had really enjoyed settling back into
the 75M AM scene when REALLY BAD THINGS started to
happen to me.

He mentioned the names of two hams who recently helped him put a dipole back in the air, after which he hoped to return to the airwaves "sometime this winter."

I'll try to locate some phone numbers and contact information so we can pass along our well-wishes to him and get the occasional status report.

Wow!!! Sorry to hear about that... I used to talk to Greg and even had the chance to meet him at the LIMARC hamfest several years back... I often wondered what ever happened to him, and when I asked, no one seemed to know.

I hope he has a successful recovery and gets back on the air someday.

no new news about Gregg tonight. i may hear something tonight or tomorrow morning. hospitals here usually don't give out patient info or room numbers to non family members. we are waiting to hear from a family member if and when we can locate that person. failing that i'll go crash the front desk at the hospital.

Horrible story and best wishes for Greg.
Glad to hear he is at least discharged from the hospital.

Losing one's home and possessions has to 2nd biggest blow to losing one's spouse.

Wonder if we, the AM community, can round up some gear so he can at least listen out.
I’d be happy to kick in a receiver.

To anyone who gets in contact with Gregg--

Please add my voice to those who send along commiserations and good wishes for a speedy recovery for Gregg.  It's been years since I talked with him, and I too wondered what had happened.  Best wishes for all good fortune from now on.

word i get today is that he's getting his voice back, and managed to save a few radio items from the house. i still don't have a phone number for him though. all this info is coming to me second hand from a former tennant of his that lived in the house. the Gates is likely safe and sound due to it's being in another building and not inside the house. nobody can get in there yet to see if anything else can be salvaged.
