WAS/IS THERE A SERIES OF MODS THAT MAY HAVE APPEARED IN CQ,73 ETC?..I'D LIKE TO BE ABLE TO FOLLOW WHAT MODS MAY HAVE BEEN DONE,IN PAST YEARS,AND SEE IF ANY OF THESE HAVEE BEEN DONE IN MINE..TNX....SK..

Post by: W2JBL on November 09, 2005, 08:41:08 PM Tim WA1HLR has done good work on those. it's basically the same as the BC348, but with a 455 KC IF. i have one of each 348 and 342 (AC powered 312), and other than power supplies (AC supply in place of dynamotor) they are stock. i kind of like them the way they are, but the audio could be better. they are very good receivers though. check out the old CQ magazine surplus conversion manuals for mods. there are tons of them. my father bought my BC348 from Harison radio in NYC back in 1947, built a Hallicrafters kit power supply for it, and the thing has worked since i can remember (about 45 years) without a crapout. they must be good stuff- W8VYZ uses one with an "outboard slicer"!
