The document carries a critical, undiplomatic tone and tries to refute FCC thinking and decisions to date.

Yes, now the league feels it was maligned because the little ole' FCC didn't pick thier proposal, so were going sling mud at the current one.

The league needs to take a good hard look at itself, and see they are no longer the "voice" of amateur radio. I like how in the first paragraph they proclaim to be the "natioal association of amateur radio". HAR!

The league technical dept. is tops, and without them (Ed Hare), Amatuers would be a lone voice crying in the wilderness when it comes to BPL. But the policies and politics of the ARRL are enough to just make my blood boil, and work me up into a frothy lather.

I just cannot support an orginazation that just doesn't have my best interests at heart.

Dumb question:

I read the first part of the FCC comments. They are from the American Radio Relay League, Incorporated.

Is it normal for a non-profit to be incorporated?

I usually thought incorporations were for profit making organizations?

Being a life "stockholder", maybe I'll get a prospectus in the mail soon!

I know I am wrong on this though...educate me please.

It doesn't look like being incorporated pre-empts status as a non-profit.

Try the Red Cross as another example.

Year, State Incorporated:  1905, Washington, D.C., chartered by Congress

The American Red Cross is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It is eligible to receive contributions deductible as charitable donations for federal income tax purposes.

I just got another letter from Newington begging for money. There's no mention it's tax-deductable.

 Was reading the league`s rationale to the FCC in attempting to justify a "new
 entry level" license for HF.
 The FCC might think with the removal of the CW requirement for all licenses
 that the "general" class would be the "new" entry level for HF.
 It will be interesting to see how the FCC responds to the ARRL`s position
 in the coming months.

 I printed it up and went to the "reading room". Page 2 paragraphs 2 and 3 pretty much sum up the FCC view on the ARRL. It may be reality check time. Yes I am a member.
