Title: QUESTION ABT DENTRON "SUPER TUNER"
Post by: ve6pg on October 15, 2005, 11:11:11 PM
HI FROM TIM...'PICKED UP A DENTRON SUPER TUNER TODAY AT A HAMFEST...THERE IS NO IDENTIFICATION ON THIS BOX,EXCEPT THE DENTRON NAME,AND THE STYLIZED "SUPER TUNER".IT HAS THE 2 VARIABLE CAPS,AND SWITCHABLE INDUCTOR ON THE FRONT,AND THE BACK HAS CONNECTIONS FOR WIRE,BALANCED,AND COAX ANTENNAS..MY QUESTION IS: DOES THIS THING TUNE 160? I UNDERSTAND THEY MADE A LATER TUNER,THAT LOOKED SOMEWHAT THE SAME,BUT HAD A MODEL NUMBER AS WELL, AT160-10 I BELIEVE. SO IF YOU KNOW,PLEASE PASS IT ALONG..TNX...SK...

Yes it will Tim. That tuner/transmatch is probably one of the most over looked of all tuners. It doesn't have bells, whistles, meters etc as the Nye Viking, but it will load you up on 160M provided you have an antenna that is close to resonance. One of my favorite antenna stories was when Duane, KK4AM, (then KN0R), and I made a double sized G5RV. During a storm, a limb knocked down one half of the antenna. His SWR changed and he re-tuned and kept on transmitting. He was only running a Viking II at the time and was heard pretty well up and down the coast. He also used the SuperTuner with the BC-610 so they will take alittle bit of QRO.

That tuner will load up a 160 antenna that is way out of resonance. Nobody will hear you but it will load up.
