Title: A.M. DX
Post by: W1IA on September 26, 2005, 03:30:24 PM
It was a fun night Saturday 9/24. A few of the boys were hanging out W2DTC, W2ZM, KD2XA, KA3AHE, and many others....Ken came on freq 3880KHZ and said PE1MPH was going to be on 3705; after a couple of e-mails with him from Ken we were able to work Henk PE1MPH running 175khz split HA!! What a blast....he came up to about 10 over before the band started to drop.

1. Was Henk on AM?

2. Did any one roll tape at this end?

Most definetly on AM and I have 2 wave files I will have to put on my web site. Henk made the recordings.

Excellent !

Well here's the thing, what's cool as a demonstration of this sort of thing to the third party who wasn't there is to include both halves of the QSO.  You've got that hi hi FB Pioneer open reel machine now, and with Henk's recordings you could have compiled a mini-QSO that anyone on the link could toon to and catch a snatch of the action.

Let me know the next time. I'lll roll and ship it to ya as an Empty Three.

Henk was a good 40 to 45DB on my R390a for a few minutes, with decent audio. impressive for 150 watts to an inverted vee. and he heard me Ok with my 175 watts to an antenna only 30 feet up. best of all the whole thing was unplanned, and just happened! see what can happen if you (i'm too busy, antenna's down, gotta wash the modulator tubes etc.) types actually get on the air? pure fun and real radio at it's best. we planned and set up skeds with this guy over the winter, and it never really worked out. then last weekend- BAM!! it happens. thanks to Brent and Ken for a cool night on the radio.
