Good Morning

Well over the last three days Blaine N1GTU and myself have been very busy bringing all the data from the old server to the new server.

The propagation was quick and seemless. In fact I noticed the BBS being used by many just hours after the order to migrate the URL Name.

The old phpbb2 system was fine and we all got use to it. But for me it was a nightmare. PHP Boards were very poor where security came in. In fact we have had two crashes in less than 6 months and security updates at least twice a month since the December crash.This was all too much tme I was spending on patching the old system.

My main concern is making sure the data we have is safe and secure and that the site is up and availabe more than it is down .

Brian W5AMI the founder of this site recommended the SMF BBS . Frankly I had never heard of them but wow this sytem is much better than the old both from a administrative viewpoint and a users viewpoint.

The way the site looks is not complete. The are many background photos and colors that still need to be changed. We have about 1/3 of the material transfered to the new site so that must continue. I figure about a week before this is all complete. Please be patient a there is much to complete.

Now on to the new features - - - - Wow too many for most. But if you take a good look around the same operations you used on the old board are here. Just think of it as you new modern day transceiver you just bought. Yes it transmits and recieves but there are a thousand buttons you have to learn and for most we will never use them.

Some new features:

You can upload picture for you posts from your computer. No need to have a place on the internet some you could add pictures to your posts.

The shout box is a instant contact messenger that you can use for vocalizing a point or trying to get a hold of someone on the site. It displays across the top header.

The Image gallery is going to replace the photo album. Again the user may upload directly to the site.

The calander links to posts. so if you have a special event you can link the calendar to that event.  The calandar is set up for b'days, holidays and events entered by  user of this site.

You have many options when posting also as you have noticed.


The AMFONE Contents is your way of moving around the site. It is always open on the left. You can move around the site from there.

I know change is tough and frankly it isn't easy on this side either. The object of this excersise is to provide a better system that offers more user options,better security, less downtime and less admin time required to keep the site up.

Give us time to get this up and running to it's at full potential and with all the graphics in place.

WOW that is fantastic. Can post a picture. This will make it a lot easier to discuss rig problems as you can now post a print.

That's an All American 5 I got for 5 bucks and I'm converting to 80 meters, adding a BFO and Q multplier.

This is excellent.

P.S. I did that using Attach under Additional Options, then found the file in my computer.

Any way to suppress "Latest on the forum" when we click on "amfone.net"?  Maybe a better question is, where is AMFONE.net?

I uploaded an image from the PC but can't seem to preview it. Text  previews fine.

It said in the instructions that you couldn't preview a file you were uploading. So I guess the software doesn't do it.

Guess I should read the instructions. Have to get the manual!

I found it in help, right at the top, clicked on "posting"

Yeh, I didn't read the directions at first either, but couldn't figure how to get an image uploaded. The attach image button wanted an http address. Figured that there must be a way to do it since Gary wouldn't lie about not needing an address.

When all my screwing around failed I read the directions.

Hey, I like the superscripts.  Now I can report that thousands of years ago, some Greek guy named Pythagoras jumped out of his bath and ran down the street naked, yelling "Eureka!   C² = A² + B²!!!"  People thought he was advertising the Olympics or something.

But it was a tremendous advance, because at the time there was no letter "C" in the Greek alphabet.  This demonstrates that streakers CAN make a difference!

Yeah, and Romanuen was killed because he told the Roman soldiers that came for him they were "standing on my numbers!"

The new look reminds me of a video game.

I'm gonna try and see if the special effects work.

I think the new look is called Inner-urban Art Deco.

Once again Gary and crew have done a great job. I really like this AM window on the web. So far I have found it easy to operate and stable on the air! Thank You !

Gary -  I would also like to say that this looks real nice.  Thanks for all the work!

You may want to consider putting a redirect to the new forum from the old forum location.  That way those of us who bookmarked the old location will end up here.  It took me a few days to realize things changed so I then came to the main site to investigate and thus found the new link to the new forum.  Just a thought.

Thanks Jay, it's working now....

Actually it should be easier on the eyes.  Much less light input.  I recall my first computer monitor used black background and green text, and would not reproduce images.  When I got my first Windows 95 machine it took me a while to get used to the white background and black text, which I presume is supposed to simulate black ink text printed on white paper.

It is, of course, a great piece of work!  Congratulations to all.

How have you been doing. Haven't heard you in quite a while since you moved up to montana. Hope all is well. I still have a QTH in Colorado but also one now up in Wyoming where I spend most of my time. Oil business is booming up here.

Superb work, gentlemen!  :)

In my login previous to this, I noticed that the "Reply" button wasn't there; so I assumed that it may have been one of the bugs that had to be ironed out.  Whatever the reason, things seem to be working now.

I prefer a darker background myself [BP med side-effect: makes my eyes more sensitive to light].
