Title: NC 183D - Addendum(s)? Post by: W1FRM on June 25, 2005, 08:13:53 AM While working on a hacked up NC 183D, I have discovered
with help from Dirk (WA2CYT) and Pete (W1VZR), that the schematic for some of these receivers does not match the actual radio. This is evident in at least two areas. First, every schematic that I have seen shows a 6J5 for V-12, the Audio Driver (Phase Splitter). The actual tube in at least three radios is in fact a 6SN7 (a DUAL triode). The other obvious known difference is the wiring for the S-Meter circuit. On the schematic, one side is tied to the RF Gain Pot wiper. On the actual radio, this lead is grounded to the chassis. What I would like to know: Does anybody have a schematic in the form of an addendum or "update sheet" that shows these (or any other differences)? Thanks ............ If you don't get it, let me know and I will resend.

able to download the .pdf file that was attached to your Email? No need to try again ----- I have figured out most of the connections to V-12 with help from Dirk. The only thing I'm not exatly sure of at this point is the connection to pin 5 on V-12 ----- I suspect that it is a resistor to B+, but would like it you could verify this connection for me? Thanks Again ........ Guy - W1FRM Title: NC 183D - Addendum(s)? Post by: Jim, W5JO on June 26, 2005, 07:17:53 AM Well Guy there is a 47K resistor attached to pin 5 that goes to regulatel voltage, pin 5 of V 15.
If you need that diagram and have another email, send me a PM and I will send it where you specify. Title: NC 183D - Addendum(s)? Post by: The Slab Bacon on June 28, 2005, 02:07:51 PM While you guys are having a 183D seminar, would any of you know what the IF frequencies are? I have both a 183 and also a 183D. I was pondering hooking up the old trusty Qmultiplier to the 183D, but had a brain fart and couldnt remember the frequencies. I know that the 183 is 455Khz, however the dual conversion version may be different, but I'm not sure. I believe the high IF is something like 1650, and the low is 455, but I cant remember for sure. Thanks in advance.

Coils A,B an C are converted to 1720 then to 455. Title: NC 183D - Addendum(s)? Post by: The Slab Bacon on June 28, 2005, 07:39:41 PM Thanks, Jim AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
I thought the low if was 455, but I couldnt remember what the high if was. If I remember the 455 is active all of the time and the high if and second conversion only becomes active at 40m and above. So I will install a jack to couple the qmult to the plate of the second converter. Thanks again. de KB3AHE |
