Title: Aurora anyone? Post by: KL7OF on October 10, 2024, 10:52:17 PM 10-10-24 Visible Aurora in WA state. I pointed North and called CQ on 10M for a while. listened around and only heard one other sig with the noticable aurora warble... I remember working Florida on SSB Aurora last cycle. Not much action tonight.
Title: Re: Aurora anyone? Post by: Pete, WA2CWA on October 11, 2024, 02:54:13 AM 6 meters had some CW working the aurora but very little and no SSB.
On 10 meters heard a 9 land beacon on CW popping from the aurora but little else. When down to 20 meters SSB and worked some South America DX. Having worked aurora conditions many times in the past on 6 and 2 meters, it really didn't excite me with this intense aurora. I suspect today there are many of the newer amateurs who really don't know how to take advantage of the aurora. Title: Re: Aurora anyone? Post by: WD8BIL on October 11, 2024, 08:17:33 AM On the contrary, Pete. Last night and this morning I've worked 213 on cw and 46 on ssb. All 6 meters.
W0ITT was stacking them up like cordwood. Title: Re: Aurora anyone? Post by: KL7OF on October 11, 2024, 09:17:56 AM On the contrary, Pete. Last night and this morning I've worked 213 on cw and 46 on ssb. All 6 meters. Way to go Buddly... I called on 6 ssb. saw no sigs. W0ITT was stacking them up like cordwood. Pete, you did good. I think you are correct about newer hams not knowing about the Aurora and what fun is available. Steve Title: Re: Aurora anyone? Post by: WD8BIL on October 11, 2024, 02:48:39 PM Thanks Steve.
The ssb contacts came in waves. I'd get 8 to 10 in a row then everything would go silent for a while. CW did the same but not as much. Everyone I heard on cw I worked. Created a few mini pileups with a CQ now n' then. Will be looking for you on 40M this winter! Buddly Title: Re: Aurora anyone? Post by: w1zb on October 12, 2024, 08:39:42 AM Thursday evening I worked a few 6M CW aurora contacts from MA. Band was active. AMfone - Dedicated to Amplitude Modulation on the Amateur Radio Bands
Friday afternoon there was a 6M opening to South America. Worked 4 countries on SSB. Lots of fun on 6M. Jerry W1ZB |
