Title: sb200 band switch stuck
Post by: ve6pg on June 07, 2005, 11:00:41 PM
HI FROM TIM..RECENTLY PICKED UP AN SB200 AMP.IT HAS NEW 572B'S IN IT. ANY WAY,THE BAND SWITCH IS STUCK. THE PREVIOUS OWNER STRIPPED THE BANDSWITCH KNOB,TRYING IN VAIN TO CHANGE BANDS.SO,I ATTEMPTED WITH CHANGE THE BANDS WITH PLYERS,TO SEE HOW DIFFICULT IT WOULD BE. WELL,IT WOULDNT MOVE,AND I DIDNT TRY TO FORCE IT. SO BEFORE I OPEN IT UP,I WOULD LIKE OPINIONS ON WHAT MAY WORK FER THIS THING..WD40?,ETC?..TIM..SK..

Also sounds liked welded contacts to me. Don't try to force the shaft with pliers. If the wafer or contacts are bad, try Jeff at http://www.harbachelectronics.com/  for replacement parts.
Check under topics, SB-200 and Other Parts.

Jeff and Harbach were our (JN and I) flea market neighbors at Dayton. Good guy and as crazy as us!

As a famous ham known for his building expertise once
told me, "A world class amplifier uses plug in coils".

But in the case of an SB-200, maybe try to find a more
strapping bandswitch and fit it in there. Real man bandswitches
were made to be hot switched..  :D

Just rip the bandswitch and all the tank components out of there and convert it to six meters.

I've known Jeff, and his next space neighbor Danny, for years. Wild and crazy bunch of old farts and always happy to help you if you have a radio-related problem.
