Title: Source for 1000V Wire
Post by: W0PWE on April 13, 2023, 12:09:05 PM
I am looking for a good source of wire rated for 1000V or better. I need to replace some of the lead wires coming out of an old TV transformer.  I will also need some to use as hook up wire and to run B+ from the power supply box to the transmitter box. The project is a 6146 transmitter so B+ will be about 750V.

I don't care much about color or insulation type as long as it rated for the voltage. And I would like to be able to buy it in small quantities. Can anyone recommend a source for such wire?

Might be overkill, but I've found this useful:

You could use Pomona 6733 test lead wire rated up to 10kV.  It's not that expensive and I like to keep some on hand for making up test leads.  I'm not so trustworthy of the voltage ratings of the "off-brands" available on Amazon, eBay, etc.

THE important factor for choosing wire is the CURRENT CARRYING CAPABILITY.
Here's a chart on this:
