Title: Color Code Post by: Vinnie/N2TAI on June 13, 2005, 07:44:25 PM K4YV's way is how I remember it. I can't remember who told the little diddy but it probably was sometime in the 60's. Isn't interesting how long you remember a slightly nasty phrase. I wonder who really originated it

I remember it from my days at Hollibird Signal Depot in the early 40's. Ralph W3GL (old buzzard!) He taught us the 'pc' version, then gave us the version Don has used here. Needless to say, I remember the latter.

And it's stuck with me ever since.
Of course, I didn't tell the librarians about it, else they'd have probably yanked the book off the shelf! :P Title: Re: A Color Code Memory Gimmick Post by: k4kyv on October 21, 2005, 09:28:12 PM Quote from: k4kyv Bad Boys Rape Our Young Girls But Violet Goes Willingly That's the way I learned it in electronics classes but it was yellow girls. From electronics class in high school I seem to remember a short story that got passed around the shop on a typed sheet along with the "Eight Pagers" (aka, "Tijuana Bibles"; if you remember THESE, then your age is REALLY showing! ;) ) I'm sure the teacher (Bob, W9OIB) knew full well what was going on, but this bit of smut was, in it's way, a useful teaching tool. It was the touching, romantic story of Mike Farad taking the young and fetching Miss Millie Henry for a ride on his Megacycle, out across the Wheatstone Bridge and into the Magnetic Fields, wherein he lowered her resistance and reluctance and put her at ground potential... I'll spare those of delicate constitution from the gory details, but suffice it to say that Millie wound up moaning "give me mho, give me mho"! :) 73's Tom, W9LBB Title: Re: A Color Code Memory Gimmick Post by: Paul, K2ORC on January 03, 2006, 10:49:26 AM Mike, that story you related about Millie Henry and Mike Farad comes back to me. My shop teacher, W2 Many Green Apples, told it or read it to us during an after school radio club meeting. That was 1963 and we were flattered that Bob thought we were mature enough to handle such "grown up" material. He was a character and I think is now inactive and is possibly SK. All the old characters are falling by the wayside. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Another thing he used to say in wood shop on those cold winter days when the school's heat was cranked up and it got dry in the shop was "its dryer than a popcorn fart" OK, one more set of rhyming conventions which I learned from an old timer Lineman: Telephone pairs: http://nps-vip.net/tester/colortbl.htm Pair Groups: White, Red Black, Yellow, Violet - Why run backwards, you'll Vomit Pairs: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown , Slate - Boys on Girls bring Surprises Mike Title: Re: A Color Code Memory Gimmick Post by: W3SLK on February 25, 2006, 11:07:13 AM Mike said:

Anyway you put it, that's damn dry ;) Title: Re: A Color Code Memory Gimmick Post by: kb9edm on October 21, 2007, 12:35:10 AM Here's one they taught us in High School Basic Electronics Class: "Bad Beer Rots Our Young Guts But Vodka Goes Well". Pretty fitting,as our High School was a haven for alcoholics even back then(and that's just the teachers, lol).

Mho mho cried Milli Amp as they pulsed and flowed until Mike's charge was depleted. Today it would be Siemens... Then there is THIS little gem with credit given to Larry N2HGY the inventor of the homotron. And you thought it was a product of H Yell R Laboratories? IONS By KB2VXA Now a lesson in physicks. (spelling intentional) Ions are otherwise normal atoms that have an electron missing or have an extra electron. They can be identified and classified according to their behavior. The anion is so named because it contains androgen. It behaves much as if it had an excess of testosterone as it may be observed flexing it's lines of force and bragging that it's charge is larger than the others. The cation may be observed picking up stray electrons and discarding them when it's charge is sufficient. This condition is transitory and soon it resumes the search for more electrons. The homotron device is particularly useful as it accelerates this process and thus makes it more readily observable. The homotron causes the electrons to be attracted to each other, ignoring their host ions. The anions will begin to fight, blaming each other. After their charges are partly depleted they will accuse the electrons of being unfaithful which will draw them into the fight. The cations being more passive will blame themselves and move to the side of the chamber and cry. Being ions, none will notice the external influence of the homotron. When the homotron is switched off it will be a little while before the ions settle down to a steady state, but when they do they will begin to exchange electrons in the normal manner. I knew a girl like that once...
