Title: 1885 khz AM
Post by: pe1mph on March 03, 2023, 07:26:48 AM
Hello AM Lovers,
This morning I was early up!
But a pity I heard no AM on 80 meters (3870 - 3885) and no BC stations from the Usa / Canada on mw.
Totaly nothing....

I were monitoring by some webreceivers, if....
So I found Chuck and Gordon on 1885 khz talking in AM about their audio.
Very nice to hear them testing...

A pity for me....
I could hear both not direct on 160 meters in AM on my radio.
Yes I know, the change to hear them...
But I tried, this morning!

I guess the freq. 1885 khz is a 'home - AM' freq.?
Often in use by AM stations and on which times?
If yes, can some one give me more info?

Never I heard an AM station from the Usa on 160 meters.
So perhaps....

This wintertime we have still good conditions on Ten.
Yesterday evening I heard Tim and ? on 29.002 khz in AM.
Till +/- 19.45 hour, wintertime, by me and New York time: +/- 13.45 hour.

Oh by the way, in Holland not many stations transmitting in AM on 160 meters.
Only 1 hour at Wednesday evenings from +/- 19.00 our time on 1877 khz.

Hallo AM Lovers,
This morning I heard weak carriers....
Some words....

On 1879 khz in AM!

I have no idea who I heard.
But I am 100% sure I heard AM stations from USA.

Time were, by me around 06:15 hours in the morning.
Just before I go to my work (+/- 06:30).

Next days I keep my ears and eyes again around 1880 khz.
I let you know if I hear something again!

Greetings,

Henk

Hello Henk

May have some luck bringing up some SDR's and looking
at the bookmarks they stick in and mark as "AM Windows".

This one has some bookmarked from 1850kc up toward the higher end.
I dont remember that many on 160m in recent years, they must be new nets.

I was on earlier after 8PM last night. I called CQ at 1885 to no avail. There was a little static due to storms off the coast. I may try with the Viking I tonight. I like to burn the cobwebs off the tubes every now and then.

Thanks for all info!
Ofcourse I tried to hear (the same) audio by a Usa / Canada webreceiver.
But first I need to find one close to the station who is on air....

Yes I hear often some stations in ssb on 160 from the Usa.
And never I have heard a station in AM, but I think....
It must be possible!!

Every morning when I am monitoring 80 meters, 160 and mediumwave....
Is for me a BIG surprice!
For example..... this morning I thougt all AM-stations are early in bed.... hi, hi....
I heard totaly nothing from the Usa, evenso no BC stations....

And then around 06:20 hours (by me!) I heard a N3 station calling on +/- 3885 khz.
He heard him saying a few times: cq.
I heard him fair to good, but he did mention his complete call to fast for me.... :'(

Thats the only station I heard this morning!
So this morning NO BC stations on mw from the Usa / Canada and nothing on 160 meters.

I think....  ???
When I receive on my radio BC stations, from Usa / Canada, on mw with a good signal....
The conditions must be good evenso for 160 meters....
Perhaps mediumwave and 160 conditions are not going together?

I guess 1880 and 1885 are the most in use AM freq.?

And it can be handy if I had a AM station who has an App.
So I can sent to him info, when I hear a station...
I mean, I post my info on this forum or I sent it to some AM stations by email.
Hi, hi... but that is later, mostly after my work... (you understand me?)

Oke thanks for reading, I keep my 'ears and eyes' to the bands. ;)

Greetings,

Henk

Hello AM Lovers,

Often I can hear 'loud & clear' on 1883 khz in usb mode one:

TX     RX
1883 2182 SSB IAR Rome Radio Civitavecchia Italy
1883 2484 SSB TFX Siglufjörour Coast Guard Radio Iceland
1883 1883 SSB Belfast Coastguard Scotland

And on 1890 khz we have:
TX     RX
1890 2045 SSB Den Helder Rescue (Dutch C.G.) Netherlands

Thats the reason why we, in The Netherlands, may not use those freq... :'(
I mean not that part of 160 meters, now from 1810 - 1880 kHz

But maybe about some years we can/may use 160 meters to 2000 khz. ;)
For AM, I hope....!

Who on 1885??

This morning I listen to qso's on 1885 khz in AM.
One man using an old broadcast transmitter (N8???), other man a BC 610 Gate?

I listen by Webreceiver in Usa and Webreceivers in UK and Holland.
Only in UK I saw a 'thine line', but no audio...
But I think: It must be possible to hear stations on 160 meters in AM in Europa. ;)
Perhaps I listen a wrong time, better for me to try a few hours later?

Sorry; I did not wrote the calls on a piece of paper last night! (N or K1???)
But which stations I heard, on my mobile phone by a Webreceiver?

And....
Last weeks very good conditions on 15 and 10 meters!
But last weeks I hear sometimes stations on 80 meters....?
I mean: by me in the morning...
I think conditions on 15 and 10 are not the same on 80 (160)! ???

Maybe, if you have a screen pixel or two missing,
Usa might come our looking like Lisa

But, if you really want to find many more Lisa Canada, I would encourage you to use Google.

Not the question you asked.
Active AM'ers in the U.S.A. know we have lots of activity from coast to coast and border to border.
BUT
YOU ASKED: "Where is Lisa/Canada?"

USA/Canada could be anywhere. Lots of activity in Southest on 3885.
