Title: HW-16 VFO QUESTION
Post by: WA2SQQ on January 29, 2023, 07:57:35 PM
I have a Heath HW-16 that I need to check out before I put it up for sale. I don’t have any crystals or the VFO. Just wondering if I can feed the VFO with my signal generator?  How much drive would I need?

"feed the transmitter"

Sure you can feed the oscillator with a signal generator if the interconnect impedance is close. I would start with zero signal generator output and quickly increase the level for grid drive and some RF output. But, the HW-16 came with a crystal socket for crystal use. The VFO is optional so it really doesn't enter into the sale pitch. But, because it might work with the signal generator can you, in good conscience, say it will work with a crystal?

I hear you … if it works with the VFO than I’ll see if someone has a crystal for sale in the CW section of the band. This was from the estate of a friend who passed away in August. It was marked “working”, so I’m optimistic.
