Title: interesting coil with brass form.
Post by: Opcom on January 19, 2023, 05:48:55 PM
Found this unusual coil wound on a brass tubing form. It measures about 1100 Ohms, could this be part of an old precision variable resistor or lab-type unit? Why the 4 tracks?

Maybe four separate roller contacts, each individually adjustable?

That is a Western Electric type 74 resistor from a type 35 test set.  It originally had 4 sliders that were switched in & out by little telegraph keys to test various relay types.

The brass form makes it non-inductive.

Maybe the rest of it is around. Stranger things have happened in estate cleanouts!
