Title: Pirate Radio Listening
Post by: WA2SQQ on September 03, 2022, 09:46:00 PM
In case anyone is up for some old fashion Pirate station listening, 6.9xx part of the band has been very active.
Right now 6.950 USB is very strong and 6.960 AM is booming in as well. The ID as "somewhere in the NE.

Going to try the SDR DFing routine.

This part of the band has been very active evenings on the weekends, especially over holiday weekends.
6.960 gave out an e-mail address. Sent them a report and got an EQSL in 30 minutes. They ID as Ballsmacker Radio!

The 6.950 has been transmitting numerous SSTV images, as shoutouts to those who send in reports. This activity takes me back about 50 years!

Yes, pirate activity in the 43 meter band is very high. The other Sunday morning I heard 3 stations just around breakfast time. There are resources available if you are interested in listening. SSTV is quite often used and stations are usually USB or AM between 6800 - 6960 kHz with 6925 being a popular hangout.

HF Underground - http://www.hfunderground.com - is a friendly forum, like this one, that logs and discusses HF monitoring listening with a strong slant toward pirate ops. There is also a real time Discord chat - https://discord.com/invite/hfunderground - if you want to stay on top of when a station in on the air. And just recently, video recaps of night time intercepts - https://www.twitch.tv/hfunderground
