Title: SECO model 100 transistor checker battery
Post by: Opcom on June 30, 2022, 10:40:19 AM
Picked up a SECO model 100 dynamic transistor checker, but nowhere on it is anything about what sort of battery it uses. The instrument seems to be from the 1960s?

A "C" cell is about the right length, but the clamp seems to want a different diameter. 1.5V seems too low except maybe for some Germanium devices. In the past, cylindrical 9 volt and 22.5 volt batteries were more common and were used in VOMs. Not sure what might be needed here.

There seems very little on the web about this unit and I'm hoping someone may know more about the type of battery it wants, or where the instruction book or other info might be found.

This is a very handy little unit designed to give basic checks, compared to the large tabletop B&K unit which I can't keep at the bench due to its size.

It has instructions on the back and is supposed to test any transistor without risk of harm when the wrong polarity is tried.

The picture shows a C cell I put in, but the fit isn't really right. The length in there is about 2", and I think the diameter of the right battery is a little smaller than a C cell's. The contacts in the holder are little 'button' types, more like what would be on a modern 9V battery.

It is a C Cell.

This looks like the same circuit marketed under Micronta Brand. Manual.
