Title: Collins HF-80 series
Post by: KF7WWW on March 05, 2022, 12:57:57 PM
Picked up a set of HF series gear. Hf-8010a, Hf-8062, Hf-8020 and Hf-8030.
Been cleaning and troubleshooting issues. I have one that has me stumped..
The problem is when you activate the 8030 supply the 8020 pa activates for about 5 seconds then shuts down. The filament lights and the blower activates for that 5 second period.
All of the cables are interconnected correctly. Exciter shows pa fault. 8020 pa only illuminates the control light after the initial 5 seconds.
Any gurus on this gear?

Sam

Heh....  There is a guy on YouTube who owned a set that did just exactly that.

Wonder if you got his radio......?  He had a few of the 80 series sets for sale.  Including the one like that.

Look up Jim, WA3CEX.  aka Mr. Collins.

He may have the answer.

Shane,
Great.. Somehow that doesn’t surprise me.. I sure hope I didn’t pick the worst lemon..

Dennis
That’s what I was calling about earlier. Maybe Jim will be able to help.

Hi!
Could be a simple one, "cooling air pressure low", caused by blocked pressure sensor.
Check inputs to the CONTROL LOGIC card.
Probably, one input indicates something that is abnormal, hence the system reaction.

Air switch was my first thought.. It’s operational and clean.
This unit did not come with the maintenance card, which allows you to override and test the functions. I’ve been trying to trace the schematics for a logical fault before I dive head first into the control cards.

Hi!
OK, air OK!
If you check the part of the manual that describes the Control Logis card, you will more or less "get a checklist" of what is the possible reson for tripping the PA fault. That will most likely lead you in the right direction, even if you are missing the Maint Card.
