Title: remote Lite Switch (again)
Post by: n1ps on April 06, 2021, 02:18:12 PM
I think we have broached this one before.  There are a lot of new remote switches out there.  Is there a "clean" one out there?  I need one with NO DIMMER and no noise.  Load is small, like 4, LED bulbs.

when you say remote light switch, do you mean RF remote or a remote connected to the dwelling wiring?

wireless remote controlled switch, usually wifi controlled.  No dimmer.  The one I have now wipes out several radio bands.  Its really a fancy dimmer.  Not enough space in switch box to add any filtering.

If the switch box is metal and isn't grounded, try grounding it.  I've had some noisy SMPS wall warts and enclosed them in a metal box with the enclosure grounded to the ground prong with good success. Hopefully, your box isn't plastic.  Of course, your switch won't be fully enclosed so some radiation will still occur.  I don't have a suggestion for a different brand of switch, at least not yet.

TNX Bob.  Yes, gnded metal box.  These things are expensive so I dont want to go thru several to find one that works with no dimmer noise.

Peter,
as far as I can tell this one does not have a dimmer and appears to be strictly a switch.  It's inexpensive too ($15). For $15 there's no guarantee that it is quiet.

For what it is worth, I have a couple of remote switches (non-dimmer and non-wifi) that plug-in which came from Ebay and one from Harbor Fright, all cheapies and they are quiet. This one from Amazon might be worth a try.

TNX Bob!  Looks like what I want and I ordered the HS200 switch.
Cheers.

Speaking of remote switches, I bought this WiFi switch with the intention of putting it in a weather proof enclosure for a remote outdoor antenna switch. An app on your phone turns it on and off. The enclosure would need to be non-metallic with the coax switch mounted inside its own metal box. Otherwise the HF RF would probably wreak havoc on the WiFi switch.
