Title: One spark, no smoke ... Collins 32V3 limping along on 21.430
Post by: W7NGA on December 04, 2020, 09:37:55 AM
With great trepidation I plugged in the Collins 32V3, having laid dormant for several years, and with fingers crossed ... applied power. Thankfully, one loud spark but no smoke later, I am able to tune-up a bodacious 50-watt signal on 21.430 Mhz with (presently) very poor audio. I was hoping the spark was from blasting away a cobweb or two, but perhaps something more sinister has transpired. Not to be deterred, I will be calling CQ throughout the day as I attempt to sort out my audio woes. It's a purely vintage Collins station, 32V3, 75A4, and a Shure 444, most likely the cause of my poor audio.

Give me a listen won't you and say hello ...

Hi Dan..boy it's been awhile since we chatted..too bad 'bout the 32V3..yup leave 'em be for a few years and somehow they get all upset..or probably just the caps..Hi Hi ..it's been "gangbusters" on 15 AM..I told John G3YPZ today that I saw ur posting..he is certainly going to be on the alert for ur signal from the left coast..don't fret on only 50watts..I'm presently at 20 modulating to 70watts..maybe it's the TA-33 that helps..??..   73 I'll keep an ear out!  de DAVE WB1EAD
