Title: Parallel transformer or have one Custom made Post by: Ac8wp on September 06, 2020, 10:13:57 PM Hi all!
I'm building a power supply for my tube gear and I am having difficulty finding a transformer that can supply the current i need. Should I just parallel 2 of the same model or have one custom made? Any good places to have one made? AC8WP-Jesse Title: Re: Parallel transformer or have one Custom made Post by: WBear2GCR on September 07, 2020, 10:29:55 AM Specifics make a difference. What tubes, what voltages , what current, etc?? The power supply I am building is for multiple radios. Art-13, arc-5, arc-1, #19 set, grc-9, exc. most of which are 600v, 540v, 400v, 240v(300ma) and 275v(300ma). Im leaning towards having one made with multiple taps so I can save room in the shack for more toys and less iron. I know the art 13 dynamotor provides about 750ma + 60ma for the receiver so im thinking 1a would be a safe bet if I want room for it to power larger equipment in the future. So far i have chokes diodes, resistors and caps in the pile of parts, only thing left is the transformer. I have hundreds of transformers and ought to be able to help you. 73DG Title: Re: Parallel transformer or have one Custom made Post by: WBear2GCR on September 07, 2020, 11:20:35 PM One way to go involves one basic transformer and a Variac + meter to monitor the output voltage...

Do you need the specs on the individual voltages? I can provide more detailed info if needed. 73 AC8WP Title: Re: Parallel transformer or have one Custom made Post by: WBear2GCR on September 08, 2020, 12:09:10 PM Remember now, transformer voltage is NOT = output voltage!!
Really, the variac solution solves many problems in one shot. _-_- Title: Re: Parallel transformer or have one Custom made Post by: Ac8wp on September 08, 2020, 05:19:12 PM Remember now, transformer voltage is NOT = output voltage!! I wanted to have fixed voltages for ease of use. But your right a variac would solve a lot of problems. Again, look at the connection options for the secondary of a transformer - choke input or not. |
