Title: Ralph W3GL SK Post by: w3jn on September 01, 2020, 09:36:09 PM Today I received some horrible news from Ralph, W3GL's son:
Quote Hi, hoping you can help me get out the word to the Amateur Radio Community; my father Ralph L Duvall Jr call sign W3GL (as I recall he also used the call sign W3NNK at some past time) passed away yesterday at age 93. He loved communicating with other HAM radio operators as long as I've been alive, and I'm absolutely certain he would want a final sign off to all the friends he made over the decades. There is a happy birthday thread from 2012 at the following address- http://amfone.net/Amforum/index.php?topic=32000.0 I am unable to post there because I can't register to the forums with a gmail address. If you could post this to the forums I would be very grateful, my father was always very exacting about following up his contacts (I can remember his big smile when I would bring in the contact postcards from the mailbox). Take care and stay safe. Many of us knew Ralph as a regular denizen on the Whats For Dinner Net, known for his keen wit and wisdom. He was truly accomplished in many ways, and I know we'll miss him greatly. I provided access to Ralph's account to his son so perhaps we'll hear from him. I built a SoftRock 80 kit for him years ago as the parts were too small for him to see. He will most certainly be missed.

Ralph was a funny guy - always had witty stuff to say. He still had an amazing, lucid, take-control attitude in his 80s and 90s. I will miss him. RIP Ralph, W3 Good Luck. Wondered about Ralph every so often over the last few years. Kinda figured I would hear this news eventually. He will be missed: his wit, love of radio, knowledge of many topics and the quickest key-up ever. Never a dull moment with Ralph in the QSO. May he Rest In Peace.

Over the years I enjoyed many chats with him, usually down in the "lower window" of 75 meters near 3705 or with the WFD Net. His voice will be missed but not forgotten.
