Title: Vaisala Lightning Map?
Post by: Tom WA3KLR on June 03, 2020, 09:07:42 AM
The static crashes are horrendous this morning on 75 meters.  So I clicked on my old Vaisala U.S lightning map bookmark and their website design appears to have changed.  Looks like no more free map. What I am hearing is probably from upstate NY & NW PA looking at the weather radars.

So I guess this good thing has come to an end, sure ain't gonna subscribe.  Perhaps there is another lightning map out there.

Things are not as static as they might appear in the lightning map world.  I have preferred Vaisala over the years, but Blitzortung out of Europe does a good job, and I'm guessing that they are tied into the same sensor network.  Blitzortung seems to have morphed into, or somehow gotten into league with LightningMaps.
The quasi live shots are more fun than the old Vaisala.

There is a decent weather site called Windy.  Take a look at the radar page, it shows storms and associated lightning.

This is an aviation site but the radar pictures are some of the best I have seen..Good for all ..If you are a pilot, even better.
