Title: Nouveau 75A
Post by: K8LEN on May 27, 2020, 03:53:02 PM
I ran into this radio a few days ago, super price, . I wonder if anyone has one and would have comments on it.
It  is like the older am xcvr sold many years ago by DAVE B. I believe. I use to work a few of those radios from SOUTHERN INDIANA to Indianapolis area and had a number of qso's.

Any comments?

Life's too short for QRP!

I'm trying to encourage a friend of mine - who's not really into filling his shack with bulky boat-anchors - to get one of these.  He's got a big grid-driven tetrode amp that would work well with a low powered exciter like that.
Heck, I've got little need for one myself, but I'm still tempted to get one just for fun.

I, and others here, bought and built one, prior to the A version.  The original design had receive issues, a revision was made that involved a daughter pcb added into the unit. The A version integrates that on the main board; it may include other changes but I don’t know.

The transceiver works, it isn’t super sensitive in receive, but at 5w carrier, it’s unlikely you’d be able to work those weak signals anyway. I’ve made a couple contacts with mine, and plan to connect it to some kind of amplifier at some point.

The kit is a straightforward build, as long as you’re pc board-familiar (vs. point to point boat anchor wiring). If the sunspot cycle was in a different place, it’d be a great kit to get people involved in building radios and AM operating, but right now, it seems more like it would be a disappointment for newbies, while being a fun distraction for those already into radio.

There are/were some very nice low power SDR transceivers out there?

Maybe that would fit the bill?

Love my hermes lite.  5 watts, all modes, all hf and higher.

Comes with switchable bandpass filters as well.  Compatible with Hermes / Anan protocol 1.

Even has 2 rx ports!
