Title: What bored A/V guys do... Post by: K8DI on April 23, 2020, 11:39:35 AM As the title says. Everything RF I've built lately is waiting on me to get the antenna sorted out -- I am planning on a day of it tomorrow. In the mean time... I built a CIV interface for my Icom radio. It has USB, I use it directly with the PC to do digital modes, but I wanted old fashioned serial. Then I hooked it up to an AMX central controller and a touchpad. Also connected that to the Agilent I use as a VFO. And the DSP unit. And it had relays, so the PTT on my homebuilt transmitter and the Dowkey antenna relay. And my footswitch. Why not?
This allows for adjustable sequencing, and solves my 'can't mute the RX' problem -- I just tune it to a different frequency during transmit. (I was not able to isolate it enough to keep the AGC from completely desensitizing it, it took 5+ seconds to recover and I would miss return calls.) Yeah, it's dumb but it was something to do. The AMX stuff is usually found in conference rooms or higher end home theatre or corporate settings. The BSS is more installed pro audio. They're both stuff that lays around my shop for testing or came out of some install that was redone. Ed Title: Re: What bored A/V guys do...
