Title: PE-162c brushes Post by: Tom W2ILA on April 10, 2020, 10:13:42 PM Anyone know of a source for PE-162 generator brushes? I sent an inquiry to fair radio, so far no luck connecting.
My 162 is a garage sale score. It started right up but the governor wasn't governing. It seems like one of the noise supression caps is acting like a 200 ohm resistor and it may have caused an HV brush to overheat and jam itself in the holder. Bottom line, the brushes are messed and the wire is detached. . Any ideas? GRC-9 portable season is right around the corner. Will these work Tom? It says they are for the GRC-9? Title: Re: PE-162c brushes Post by: Tom W2ILA on May 12, 2020, 08:54:17 PM Not quite Terry. Those are for the mobile dyno power supply thats in my Jeep. The brushes I'm looking for are for the 1hp 2-stroke generator. Its a cool little gas generator that runs 16:1 gas/oil mix so it doubles as a mosquito control smoke generator.
I managed to clean up the bad brush and reattach the copper wire - lets see if it lasts. The generator governor still needs some adjustment to get the voltages right. 73 Title: Re: PE-162c brushes Post by: W2PFY on May 12, 2020, 11:18:19 PM Ok Tom, I know this won't help you over there but as a suggestion for new brushes, I would call a electric motor repair facility. I went to a motor repair place a long time ago in Plattsburg, NY and they actually had at least a thousand different types of brushes in stock. Plattsburg is not that big but there is one paper company in town that uses motors and it is also a farm hub so maybe that's the draw for their business? I guess you would need to take a sample with you. 73 & good luck! Terry |
