Title: Mystery meter
Post by: W8ACR on January 27, 2020, 08:17:05 PM
I found this s-meter when I was going through my box of meters. Does anybody know what kind of receiver it belongs to?

Thanks, Ron

Well, dunno. It is nice.
But the only S-Meter I know of that is set up "backwards" is in my Hallicrafters SX-28.
This isn't an SX-28 meter, but?

Can you peer down behind the glass?
Any markings there?

Looks very similar but not identical to the meter in my SX101A. Maybe it is from an earlier version.

The only other marking that I can find on the meter is a number on the back. As you can see, there is a hole in the rear cover for a lamp, and there is a number which I believe is "82C248" or perhaps 820248.

I took the meter out of the housing and found another number on the very bottom of the faceplate "83C250".

The meter looks new on the inside. Very clean. I don't need it. I'll probably post it in the FOR SALE section later tonight.

Thanks again, Ron

Case kinda reminds me of Simpson as a manufacturer, maybe WW II era.  And, the color and stamping of the number looks like it may have been military.

82C248 shows up as the S-meter for Hallicrafters SX-88, Run 1.  Manual from BAMA.

Great! I have the S-meter. Finding the rest of the receiver should not be too hard. :D
