Title: K1JJ loud into Okla.
Post by: AG5UM on January 04, 2020, 07:22:39 PM
Really enjoyed hearing K1JJ and K4KYV, KA4KOE and others last night on AM, Very loud and great audio into Oklahoma.
K1JJ, your Delta-loop is amazing, and was very much louder than the di-pole.
I was listening on my Hallicrafters S-40B, with 50 feet of wire wrapped around a box! in the house !! the Q-multiplier helped.
I heard KA4KOE say he running only 25 watts, did I hear that right? 25 watts??
Great signals guys!!

Hi Don,

Thanks for the reports from OK.   Well, that's 2/3's the way to CA. I tried to work the west coast last night but no takers.

Though (would you believe it) I received several emails from Europe the last 2 days saying they heard us in AM QSOs.  The one today was hearing W2XR and W1DAN and me sometime around 3PM EST in daylight ... amazing.

My western direction uses a 2 element delta loop at 190' high - which you were hearing last night. It has a vertical take off angle of about 30 degrees which is perfect for west coast or for Eur when switched in the opposite direction. I made it broad tuned enuff to cover the ssb 75M DX window at 3795  and the AM area up around 3885.

Hope to hear you on soon!

T

Below is the 2el 75M deltas on a 40' boom. West towards you is towards the right tree line.  (Below the wire loops are a pair of homebrew stacked 60' boom, 300 pound 20M Yagis.... :-)

yes i heard W2XR and W1DAN sometime verry good S9 and try to break in .they have heard me but my signal was not (heavy)enough and then i heard K1JJ break in verry load but my bc610 signal was not enough for a qso.
so next time when you hear a weak station !!!please think about europe
ps here it was in the middle of the night ;

75 has been very long overnight.  I heard Craig KB3RHR calling CQ very loud around 5 AM this morning on 3885.  I heard him respond to me and made a short transmission but nothing there on my over.  Checked the antenna SWR and all normal, then called CQ, looking at where my signal was getting out to on various SDRs.  Was only being received with enough SNR to be copyable on the west coast KFS SDR.  Eventually the band shorted up a bit, but even now, the FL net guys including ones from TX are booming in.

Earlier this morning around 0330 EST I worked CX4DI Uruguay, and LU6FL Argentina down in the 75 meter DX window.

The EU SSB stations have been booming in down in the window as early as 1530 EST lately, have worked many of them that early from the home station with the CE20A and 600L, and from the mobile with the new  IC-7100 and a Hamstick from down at Stonington Point and even from various parking lots in the area.  The EU stations also come in very strong around 0230 EST to 0330 EST near their local sunrise.  Had a mobile to mobile QSO with M0KPD/M around 0300 EST last week, marginal copy while on I95, solid 59 both ways from Stonington Point.

The 0230 EST/0730Z time frame might be the best to try for cross-pond 75/80AM QSOs.  Also might be possible around 1630 EST/2130Z.  I think 3615 is a popular AM frequency in EU.
